The New Year of 2012

The end of a year is a time to reflect on life during the year and whether you would like to changes for the year that follows. Many of us struggle to make all our good intentions a reality. So do set goals that are reachable and do not set too many.

Consider being kinder, caring and generous to yourself and others. You can do this by taking time to ponder before making a judgement, being more considerate and tolerant of others. You may find yourself reaping the rewards of your good actions as well.

The following tips on safety and making a Living Will, arises from recent travel trip to a location that is known to be crime ridden and from having lost a very close family member. Talking of death maybe morose, but it is a reality that we all face. So why not be prepared for the inevitable.

Safety at home or when visiting

Be aware of your surroundings and take care to dress appropriately for the location you happen to be in. If you have a cell phone, do charge it, carry it with you and ensure that you have it easily accessible. if you leave your home, make sure that people know where you have gone, and what time to expect you back. Don't leave parcels exposed in the backseat. Criminals are known to break in if something looks tempting. Try to blend in with the locals and not dress in a style that advertises that you are a tourist. Use cameras in a discreet way. Limit the use of jewelry.

If you have a life alert system, wear that, as you are able to call for help with the press of a button. If you have allergies, have that information easily accessible, should you ever be in a life threatening situation.

Take charge of your life

What we all have to face for certain, is death. Although most of us expect death at an older age, death can happen at anytime. It is best to be prepared in order to make your wishes known to the family for funeral arrangements and for family to know how to dispose of your belongings, what your debts are, whether you have a will, where is the will, and so forth.

When someone dies, there is a great deal of sadness and people struggle to cope. If your affairs are in order, it will be a great deal less stressful on the family left behind. It is never too early to consult an attorney to discuss this subject. You can also check for information online and download forms that are available in the area that you live.

Over and above drawing up a trust or making a will, do have a Living Will or Health Care Directive drawn up. This is a set of instructions regarding actions to be taken should you ever be in a medical condition that prevents you from talking or renders you incapable of making decisions. While you are in sound mind and body, you can appoint someone of your choice to make decisions such as whether you should be on artificial like support.

You can also lay out your wishes in your Living Will and state whether you want to be on life support or not. You can also choose to donate your organs, & state which organs, should there be no chances of you recovering. You decide what ceremonies you would like when you die, & whether mourners should bring flowers or make donations to a charity, in lieu of flowers. You also decide whether you would like to be buried or cremated and what should be done with the remains.

You will also have peace of mind knowing that you have taken care of arrangements. If you would like more information on this subject please do use my contact information. Wishing everyone a very successful 2012.
